Cattle theft at Ongersfontein farm – Accused handed 15 year sentence

The Richmond Regional Court handed down a 15 year direct prison sentence to 52-year-old, John Bamm on Friday, 21 April 2023 for Stock Theft.

The accused was on trial for stealing 48 Rooibosveldt cattle valued at approximately R755 000-00 at Ongersfontein farm in Richmond on Saturday, 16 July 2022.

The Court heard that the accused broke a gate padlock to gain access to the camp and let the cattle out.

He was spotted by a community member who knows his modus operandi, and he informed the police.

The Pixely Ka Seme District Commissioner , Major General Nomana Mtukushe applauded Detective Sergeant Winston Julies of the De Aar Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit for the thorough investigation of the case and ensuring that the perpetrator is dealt with harshly and also the community member for being the eyes and ears of SAPS.
