Five suspects have been arrested for burglary at the Stellenbosch police garage. After numerous theft incidents reported at the garage over a period of time, members of the Stellenbosch Crime Prevention Unit and external role players arrested a suspect during the early hours of Sunday, 23 April 2023.
The suspect led the investigation team to five addresses in the Cloetesville area where various car parts belonging to vehicles had been stolen and stored at these premises, presumably for resale to the public.
The five suspects are due to appear in the Stellenbosch Magistrates court on various charges including business burglary, theft from motor vehicle and malicious damage to property.
In an unrelated matter, an intelligence driven operation, Paarl East Crime Prevention Unit members obtained a search warrant and searched a house in Cornellison Street, Paarl East.
Upon searching the house the members seized drugs with an estimated street value of R5000-00, alcohol including cash believed to be proceeds from crime. A 25-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested for dealing in drugs and alcohol. Furthermore members arrested a 32-year-old suspect for illegal possession of ammunition, dealing in drugs, possession of presumed stolen goods.
The members confiscated drugs, ammunition and an undisclosed amount of cash in Magnolia Flats, Paarl East.
On Monday 24 April 2023 members attached to Anti-Gang Unit were busy with tracing operations in Belhar area, when they received information about a firearm at a premises in Volta Street, Belhar and that the suspect is being detained at Bellville South.
The above mentioned suspect was booked out and his address was searched. A black Star 9mm pistol and eleven 9mm rounds were recovered and seized. The firearm was booked in at Belhar SAPS as exhibit and will be send for ballistics for analysis.
