A 31-year-old suspect was nabbed in possession of an unlicensed firearm with serial numbers filled off and seven live ammunition in Acornhoek filling station near Acornhoek police station.
Police reacted to the whistle-blower’s information whereby a suspect was seen with the firearm.
Police quickly responded to the call and found the vehicle and the suspect matching the description.
Police searched the vehicle which had one passenger.
In the passenger’s bag, the tempered with firearm and seven live rounds were recovered and the 31-year-old suspect from Marite was arrested.
He is expected to appear in Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 2 May 2023.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela commended the anti-crime community member who alerted the police. “People can just look at it as one firearm was removed from wrong hands, but the depth meaning of the whistle-blower’s action is someone’s life has been saved,” concluded the General.
