Weekly operations net 750 suspects, Gauteng

The police in Gauteng continue to intensify their efforts in the fight against crime through the renowned Operation O Kae Molao.

This multi-disciplinary operation is conducted weekly throughout the five districts of Gauteng province and is inclusive of different law enforcement agencies, government departments, the Community Police Forum and private security companies with the aim of fighting any criminal activities and stamping the authority of the State.

This week, the Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela led the provincial operation which was held at Tembisa in Ekurhuleni District. Lt Gen Mawela was joined by the Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe and her Provincial Management with the aim of benchmarking and sharing information on best practices of Operation O Kae Molao.

The operation saw a score of people arrested for different crimes that include possession of drugs, dealing in drugs, contravening the Immigration Act, possession of unlicensed firearm, possession of suspected stolen property.

The detectives through their operation of tracing wanted suspects also arrested over seven hundred and fifty (750) suspects throughout the province for serious crimes such as murder, attempted murder, rape, sexual offences and assault GBH amongst others.

Lt Gen Mawela commended the forces of O Kae Molao for their efforts in ensuring that there are more boots on the ground to protect and serve the people of Gauteng.
