A 41-year-old suspect, employed by the Gauteng Department of Transport was arrested on Tuesday, 16 May 2023 for a charge of corruption.
The suspect was approached by a businessman who wanted to develop his newly purchased farm by creating an access road into the property.
The engineer attached to the government department inspected the property near N14 Tarlton, in Krugersdorp and allegedly informed the complainant that he will approve his application on condition that he pays him eighty thousand rand (R80 000) gratification fee.
The matter was reported to the Krugersdorp based Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team and a disruptive operation was put in place.
The suspect was arrested after receiving forty thousand rand (R40 000).
He is expected to appear in Krugersdorp Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 17 May 2023.
