The 23-year-old man from Thabana-Tsoana Village in Qwaqwa accused of raping an elderly woman (76) and murdering her grandson (17) has been linked and charged with another two cases of house robbery, rape, attempted murder and two assaults with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He is expected to appear before Tseseng Magistrate court on Tuesday, 13 June 2023.
The first incident he is linked to was on Saturday, 8 July 2022 at about 22:00. The suspect entered the house of an elderly woman, aged 80, while she was asleep through a broken window.
He allegedly assaulted, raped her and robbed her of her personal belongings.
The second incident he is linked to happened on Sunday, 24 July 2022 at about 00:00. The 35-year-old woman of Thabana-Tsoana Village woke up and prepared her children’s porridge because they were hungry.
While busy, she was surprised by a person who kicked her door open and stabbed one child on the shoulder and her mother on the chest as they were screaming for help.
He threatened to kill them but pulled their mother out of the house and left. A case of attempted murder and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was opened.
The arrest of the accused person within 24 hours of the recent incidents led the police investigating officer to link him to the two cases. The suspect has been charged and is expected to appear in court on 13 June 2023.
