The De Aar Regional Court recently handed down a 12 years’ direct imprisonment sentence to 28-year-old Anthony Hector for damage to essential infrastructure perpetrated in De Aar, on Thursday, 1 December 2022.
The Court heard that on the said day the accused who was spotted inside the Transnet yard by a Security Officer, tried to ward off the security officer with a knife who had to call the police for assistance with the arrest.
The SAPS in the Northern Cape has noted the escalation of theft of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and this conviction is a direct result of meticulous police investigations.
The Pixley Ka Seme District Commissioner, Major General Nomana Mtukushe applauded Detective Sergeant Shawn Moses for the thorough investigation of the case. As damage to and tampering with essential infrastructure is a priority for the Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Koliswa Otola, efforts will continue unabatedly to address this crime and to ensure that perpetrators committing these crimes will feel the full might of the law.
