Members from Crime Intelligence in Ermelo provided information which led to the recovery of Commercial and Military explosives in Ermelo on 22 June 2023.
According to information, members received information about explosives that were hidden at Douglas dam in Ermelo.
The information was operationalised and thanks to K9 Unit from Ermelo, K9 Unit from Standerton and K9 Unit in Whiteriver who responded accordingly and advanced to the scene where upon arrival, they began to search and noticed something suspicious.
The members dug and found three bags which they opened and recovered the explosives which were then confiscated.
Police are still conducting an investigation regarding this discovery and part of the probe will also focus on a person or persons who could have hidden the recovered items.
Police urge anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111.

All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.
The Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela thanked all role-players for their positive contribution and involvement. The General used the discovery as an opportunity to caution the public on the repercussions of explosives. “We urge members of the public, more especially children to stay away from suspicious objects or items that they may come across as it may endanger their lives. Authorities should immediately be informed instead. Now that schools are closing for the winter season, we urge parents to talk to their kids so as to prevent injuries or even worse situations. Though no one has been arrested but most importantly the exercise has possibly prevented the loss of life” said the General.
