Fraudulently purchased electricity, Hawks track down suspects, Delft

An intelligence driven operation by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Crime Intelligence and Combined Private Investigation led to the arrest of two suspects aged 28 and 31 respectively for fraud and theft on 30 June 2023 in Delft.

The information was received about a person involved in the selling and distribution of fraudulently purchased electricity from ESKOM and immediately operationalised.

Meter numbers were made available from ESKOM and electricity was successfully purchased for 600 units on three different dates.

During the last transaction the suspect was arrested and state funds were recovered.

Further information was followed which led to the arrest of another suspect who is also allegedly involved on this criminal syndicate.

Once charged, both suspects will make their appearance in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on 3 July 2023.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Western Cape, Major General Makgato commended the members for the job well executed and encouraged the members of the public to report such criminal activities to the authorities.
