Private Integrated Approach to Policing continues to be an exciting adventure to all parties involved in Mangaung Metro.
During the past crime accountability week the South African Police Service, members of Community Police Forum, Security Officers and Reaction Forces from various security companies, Medical Personnel and Community Patrollers joined the parade to execute patrols in the Central Business District, Bainsvlei, Bayswater, Heidedal and Navalsig Police precincts.
The idea is to augment the high density operation, Operation Shanela disruptive actions by lending and exchanging skills and resources to eradicate crime; occupy space through saturation and eliminate opportunities for idle mind that might end up committing crime.
Blitz operation activities were carried out in Heidedal Police Station area with much success.
The police arrived at a well known drug post in Nadia Street – Ashbury to execute a search with an issued warrant. Twenty (20) small packages; and one (1) big packet of dried leaves of dagga weighing at 0.062 kilograms were found hidden inside the box. Milton van Heerden was arrested. Still in Nadia Street another house was searched and nineteen (19) small packages; and two (2) big ones weighing at 0.096 kilograms were found inside a bag. The police then arrested Sakhile Khumalo.
The team moved to Maasbanker Street in Bloemside and Marvin Kekana was found in possession of twenty-one (21) star etched Mandrax tablets. Ryan Booysen was arrested in Kabeljou Street for dealing in drugs. One-hundred-and-forty-nine (149) Mandrax tablets were found hidden in the bedroom. Two other suspects; Armin Fillies and Marko Plaatjie were arrested in Parish Avenue for dealing in drugs. Twenty-five (25) Mandrax tablets were found in their possession.
Three suspects; Paballo Lethola (33), Dillo Namola (33) and Vuyisile Lamane (52) were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition at a Filling Station in Botshabelo. Members of Tactical Response Team confiscated the Norinco 9mm pistol and five (5) live rounds of ammunition. The three suspects are wanted in a murder case and the firearm was reported stolen in Orange Farm. Senate Phoofolo (30) was arrested in Douglas Street – Bloemfontein CBD in possession of forty-six (46) Mandrax tablets, Chrystal Meth and Cat drug with total street value of the drugs estimated at R9 000.00.
The operation continued in Botshabelo and Mojalefa Mpisane was arrested in L-Section for dealing in dagga. Two (2) zinc baths full of dried leaves of dagga and a paraffin heater box staffed full of the drug were seized at a house still in L-Section. One (1) 5.65mm R5 Rifle bullet and ten (10) .300mm Winchester ammunition was also seized and Leuta Mmolaoa was arrested.
Two suspects aged 38 and 49 were arrested for robbery in Navalsig. The suspects accosted the complainant and his girlfriend and pointed them with what looked like a real firearm. They then robbed the victims of a Huawei cellular telephone and cash. The complainant met with members on patrol and gave them the description of the suspects. The suspects were later arrested in possession of a 9mm pellet gun resembling a firearm and the victims’ belongings.
More Operation Shanela actions are planned and will be carried out by role-players and stakeholders of Mangaung Metro District JOINTS in the coming week, and will be sustained in the future. The District Commissioner of Mangaung Metro Major-General Arthur Peter Adams would like to pass his gratitude for the effort from both Public and Private stakeholders during the operations.
