The members intervened and with the assistance of another NIU member, both suspects were apprehended.

The stolen property (cash, cellphone, clothing and cigarettes.) was found in their possession. A 9mm firearm, one magazine with and four rounds of ammunition and a toy firearm were confiscated.

Both suspects aged 28 and 30-year-old were detained on charges of robbery with a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The suspects will appear in the Motherwell magistrate court during the week.

Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata commended the actions of the police officers. ‘Their actions most certainly exemplifies the calibre of police officers who serve as a testament to the level of commitment and professionalism we aim to uphold. Even when off duty, our officers remain steadfast in their duty to protect and serve the community they so passionately care for,’ added Maj Gen Ncata.
