The FF Plus is overjoyed that the Mookgophong Magistrate’s Court did not throw out the case against the suspects in the farm murder of Nicky Janse van Rensburg in October 2022.
During the court proceedings on 21 August, the four suspects’ legal representative requested that the case be thrown out because, according to him, the state did not have enough evidence to proceed.
The case was postponed to today.
After the court proceedings on 21 August, the FF Plus asked the police’s Waterberg District Commissioner, Maj. Gen. Dikeledi Rebecca Mangena, to ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated, and to provide any outstanding evidence to the state prosecutor.
Maj. Gen. Mangena instructed her office to carefully examine the murder case files to identify any outstanding information and make it available for today’s court proceedings.
The information was conveyed to the prosecuting authority which recommended that the investigation must proceed, and that the accused must not be released.
The court today ruled that the case will proceed to allow for further investigation. Any new evidence must be presented during the next court appearance on 5 September.
The defence vehemently opposed this decision.
The onslaught on farmers is not only to the detriment of farmers, their next of kin and workers, but also the whole of South Africa. It has been a problem for decades, but government simply refuses to declare it a priority crime.
The party will keep a close eye on the proceedings to ensure that justice prevails.
