Five illegal miners were arrested at Mutshipisi village at Malamulele Policing area, on Friday, 01 September 2023 during a disruptive operation conducted between 10:00 and 19:00.
Vhembe District members operationalized information received about illegal miners at the said village. Leads were followed and five suspects aged between 21 and 39 were arrested.
During the arrest, Police confiscated two bakkies and one truck fully loaded with precious stones, gas cylinders and other equipment.
Police opened a case of contravention of the Precious Metal Act.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the teams for arresting these suspects and protecting the minerals of this Province.
The suspects will appear before Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 04 September 2023.
The Police investigations are still ongoing.
