On Tuesday 05 September 2023 at about 14:00, Bloemfontein Flying Squad members working together with the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, Bloemfontein K9 Unit and Parkweg Crime Prevention Unit received information about a robbery in Letsoala Street, Rocklands, Bloemfontein. It is alleged that five unknown males attacked the tuck shop owner after he parked his white NP200 van in front of the tuck shop.
One of the suspects pointed a firearm at the tuckshop owner, instructing him to lay on the ground. They took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot.
On arrival at the scene, members were given a clear description of the suspects and a lookout was issued to patrolling vehicles. All five suspects were spotted and arrested near a church in Letsoala Street, Rocklands. Police recovered suspected stolen property and a firearm was seized for the suspects.
All five male suspects, aged between 33 and 43, will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court soon for robbery with a firearm.
In another incident, on Wednesday 06 September at about 10:52, Highway Patrol member received information about a woman who was allegedly in possession of copper cable at a house in Freedom Square, Bloemfontein.
Members operationalized the information which led members to a residence where copper cable worth an estimated R20 000 was found inside the female suspect’s house.
Preliminary investigation established that the cable was allegedly stolen from an electricity supplier in Bloemfontein. The 35-year-old suspect was arrested and is still to appear in court for damage to essential infrastructure and possession of suspected stolen property.
