Matron Lindiwe Nkuna (53) appeared before the Nelspruit Magistrate Court on Monday, 11 September 2023 after she was arrested by the Nelspruit based Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation on Monday, 11 September 2023 for Fraud and contravention of Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011.
It is alleged that on 07 July 2011, Nkuna who was a sole Director of Mbaso Trading Enterprise CC and her company was awarded a tender by department of Rural Development and land Reform to the value of R3 781 922.30. The accused failed to apply for registration as a Value Added Tax vendor upon being awarded the tender. The accused received payment from the Department of Rural and Land Reform and made several transfers into her personal accounts.
The failure to register as a Value Added Tax or VAT vendor with the South African Revenue Services (SARS), the tax collector (SARS) suffered a loss of R464 446.66.
The accused was released on R10 000.00 bail and the case was postponed to 15 September 2023 for further investigation.
