There might be a silver lining here – if your bank is about to repossess your property invite some good friends to illegaly inhabit your home while you are away. The bank, just like property owners, are subject to the same laws so cannot simply evict the “illegal” squatters and sell your property. They will have to go through the court system to get the “illegals” evicted and then, by law, provide them with alternative accommodation. This process takes years in South Africa. I doubt the banks would bother – in other words the original owners could move back in after things have settled down and no longer pay a mortgage while occupying their home again without any legal recourse by the bank. IF YOU HAVE NO OTHER OPTION IT’S WORTH A TRY!
