Mahlaku Jaqueline Legoabe (51) is expected back in court on 15 September 2023 after her release on R10 000-00 bail by the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes court subsequent to her arrest in March 2023.
The Hawks’ Serious Economic Offences unit arrested Mahlaku Jaqueline Legoabe (51) for fraud and contravention of Section 234(d) and Section 235(1)(A) of The Tax Administration Act No 28 of 2011. The accused who is the sole director of the business, Titan-E-Services (PTY) Ltd was first identified as a suspect in the Phola case where investigation confirmed that a total of R8 884471.63 was paid into her Titan business account by a company called Intertrading Africa.
Further investigation revealed that one of the directors of Intertrading, was also a director of a business called, Steff-Izazi JV, which had secured a contract with Eskom at the Kusile power station. Analysis of Titan finances identified an amount of R6 009 177.62 for the benefit of an accused in Bedforview case, Mangope Frans Hlakudi who was a senior manager at Eskom at the time of the payments, and also a suspect in the Phola case. R2.6 million from Hlakudi Translation & Interpretation Services (HTI) was identified. HTI is also an accused in the Bedfordview case.
The above payments were made to the business account of Titan and the personal account of Legoabe prompted SARS investigation which revealed that Titans was registered for Value Added Tax (VAT), Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and Company Income Tax (CIT) for the period of 2016 to 2019. Legoabe failed to submit returns for her own personal income for the period 2016 to 2019 and thus prejudicing SARS R17 785 084.07.
Two other cases were opened by SARS in Brooklyn against the accused and her business.
