Trio released on bail for fraud and theft

Brian Mandizvidze (31), Nompumelelo Ngwenya (37) and Tshepang Phatswane (30) were released on R2000-00 bail by the Middelburg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 21 September 2023 after they were arrested by the Hawks Middleburg based Serious Organized Crime Investigation for fraud and theft at Blinkpan policing area.

It is alleged that on 25 August 2023, the driver of a truck, Brian Mandizvidze, loaded coal from NCC mine to deliver at Majuba Power Station. Instead of delivering the coal to Majuba Power station, the driver diverted to an illegal coal yard where they off-loaded the coal.

The two weigh bridge operators Ngwenya and Phatswane issued the weigh bridge slips as if the coal was delivered, whereas in actual fact, it was not.

A payment of R27 000-00 was effected by Majuba Power Station, and as such, they suffered actual prejudice.

The matter was reported to the Hawks who conducted a sting operation, and the trio was arrested on Thursday, 21 September 2023, and appeared in court on the same day.

The case was postponed to 6 October 2023 for pretrial. Investigation is continuing.
