Thabazimbi Regional Court convicted and sentenced two accused for house robbery, burglary and contravention of Immigration Act

Thabazimbi Regional Court has on Friday 22 September 2023, convicted and sentenced two accused, Monyamane Retselisitsoe 33-year-old and Ramothibedi Bernard Mogorosi 50-year-old to 22 years imprisonment each for house robbery, burglary and Contravention of Immigration Act at Smashhoek Extension 8 Thabazimbi Waterberg District.

The court heard that on Friday 27 December 2019 at 20:50, the victim was closing his home’s windows and doors when both accused forcefully gained entry into the victim’s house without his consent and beat the victim with knobkierie until he passed out. Later, he discovered that his household goods had been stolen, including cash money, a cellphone, and groceries.

The two were arrested and charged with house robbery, burglary and contravention of the Immigration Act.

Both of the accused were positively linked to other cases of house robbery and theft around the same area.

Bail was opposed until they were convicted and sentenced on three counts, as follows:

Count 1: House robbery 15 years of direct imprisonment. Count 2: Burglary resistance 5 years of direct imprisonment. Count 3: Contravention of Immigration Act, 2 years of direct imprisonment

All sentences will run concurrently.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the sentencing handed out by the Thabazimbi Regional Court and appreciated the work of the investigating officer, Sergeant Seshoka, and his team for their effort.
