Extensive partnership policing and good cooperation with community safety structures once again yielded success with the arrest and recovery of a vehicle stolen during a house robbery reported at Friemersheim Road in Groot Brakrivier during the past week.
The investigation into the initial incident reveals that a witness who had an appointment with the 76-year-old man on Monday, 18 September 2023, became suspicious when he approached the property and found the gate unlocked. While entering the residence he found the kitchen door covered with blood stains and immediately alerted the local police. On arrival at the scene police found the man with a serious gaping head wound, barely conscious. He was taken to hospital for emergency treatment. It was also discovered that his vehicle, an Opel Astra station wagon, was missing from the garage.
Further investigation into the house robbery took police to Villiërsdorp where members of the neighbourhood watch on patrol spotted the stolen motor vehicle which was circulated on various social media platforms, parked near the police station on Wednesday evening, 20 September 2023. Upon further inspection they found three occupants fast asleep inside the vehicle. The NHW volunteers alerted police and upon investigation on scene, confirmed their suspicion. The driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested for the possession of the stolen vehicle. Further investigation into the discovery of the vehicle later positively linked him to the house robbery.
The 28-year-old suspect remain in police custody and is scheduled to make his first court appearance in the Grootbrak Magistrates’ court on Tuesday, 26 September 2023. He is facing charges of house robbery and theft of motor vehicle. The possibility that the suspect could be linked to similar incidents reported in the region are being investigated.
