Five male suspects arrested in separate incidents at different locations outside Polokwane for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

The South African Police Service in Modimolle were alerted about a suspicious male suspect who went inside a local Bank in the Waterberg District on Tuesday, 26 September 2023.

Police swiftly proceeded to the bank where upon arrival, Police were informed that the man had already left the Bank, however a detailed description of the motor vehicle that he boarded was provided to Police who operationalized the information and an immediate search commenced.

A white VW Polo sedan, fitting the description, was spotted travelling on the N1 road heading towards Polokwane direction and the members of the Capricorn District Flying Squad were dispatched to be on the lookout until it was stopped and searched along the N1 Freeway, Thabo Mbeki off ramp. Three suspects were immediately arrested for possession of two firearms and ammunition that were concealed inside the motor vehicle.

While busy at the scene, Police received intelligence about another suspicious motor vehicle that was parked at Savanna Mall outside Polokwane and they proceeded to the vicinity. Police tactically approached a white VW Jetta motor vehicle with two males and it was searched.

During the search, Police discovered ammunition inside the vehicle and the duo were immediately apprehended on the spot.

The two motor vehicles used during the commission of the crimes were also seized during the arrests. Police investigations will be conducted to determine if the suspects may be positively linked with other crimes that were committed across the Province.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, hailed the teams involved in the arrest of these suspects for their vigilance and commitment.

The suspects aged between 29 and 33 will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon facing separate charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Police investigations are continuing.
