The Kimberley High Court granted the Hawks and Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) a final order against Andre Pier (54) on Friday, 29 September 2023.
In April 2021, a silver Colt bakkie with five occupants was stopped and searched by local Visible Policing members. During the search, 30 sheep that were reported stolen, were found in the bakkie. The accused could not give a reasonable explanation as to how they came in possession of the livestock and they were apprehended for possession of suspected stolen livestock. The vehicle was seized and booked into the exhibit book.
The matter was referred to the Hawks’ Priority Crime Specialised Investigation and after asset investigation, it was then referred to AFU where an execution order was granted by the court. The vehicle was sold for R11 335.88 and the money was paid into the Criminal Assets Recovery Account (CARA).
