Police arrest and link the suspect with several cases relating to essential infrastructure

As part of intensifying the fight against damaging of critical infrastructure, the Provincial Organised Crime arrested David Mathebula (54) in Delareyville and linked him with several cases.

The accused was nabbed on Sunday, 01 October 2023, after information was received regarding men who were roaming around farms in the vicinity of Delareyville. Upon being confronted, one of the roamers was identified as a wanted suspect for tampering with and / or causing damage to essential infrastructure and theft of tower batteries valued at R32 000.00. Following his arrest, he was linked through fingerprints, with six cases in Free State, Limpopo, Northern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Moreover, the accused was linked with crimes committed in Madibogo, Piet Plessis, Taung, Bray and Morokweng between June 2014 and September 2018.

Mathebula was remanded in custody upon appearance in the Atamelang Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 2 October 2023, facing charges of tampering with and / or causing damage to essential infrastructure and theft of tower batteries. The matter was then referred to Regional Court wherein the accused is expected to appear on Friday, 10 November 2023.

Investigation into the matter continues.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena lauded all members involved for their hard work that culminated in the success.
