The Police in Apel under Sekhukhune District are investigating an inquest docket, following an incident that occurred on Tuesday, 03 October 2023 at around 09:00 in which an alleged illegal miner was killed when a rock fell on him while mining chrome illegally at Atok, Bogalatladi Village.
It is reported, that police were summoned to the scene after the rock fell on top of the man and on arrival with Emergency Services, they found the male victim severely injured. He was certified dead on the scene by EMS.
The deceased was identified as a 39, male originally from Mozambique.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has warned communities to desist from participating in illegal mining activities as they are not only committing a serious crime but also putting their lives in danger.
Police investigations are still ongoing.
