The accused, Ruben Makhafola (59) appeared before the Mokopane Regional Court on Friday, 06 October 2023 where he was convicted and sentenced to eight years imprisonment for murder of his cousin.
The Court heard that on Sunday 06 March 2023, the accused and his cousin Norius Kekana (58) both residing at Matome Village in Moletlane area outside Zebediela, got embroiled in a heated argument relating to family issues when the accused went to his house and fetched an axe and hacked his cousin to death.
He was arrested by the Police at the scene and was charged with murder.The case was allocated to Detective Constable Billy Nchabeleng of Moletlane SAPS. He was remanded in custody until he was eventually granted bail in May 2023.
Makhafola made numerous court appearances until made numerous until he was convicted. He was sentenced to eight years direct imprisonment for murder with no option of a fine.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the Investigating Officer for the sterling job that led to the conviction and sentencing of the accused person.
