SAPS in Kathu are investigating an Inquest after the tragic deaths of six members of the South African National Defence Force.
On Friday, 06 October 2023, raging veld fires swept through Kathu in the Gamagara Municipality District and spread to the Lohatla SA Army Combat Training Centre.
Four males and one female died on the scene and one female died in hospital.
Vehicles, tents and equipment were also destroyed.
The SANDF will launch an investigation. The names of the deceased will be released after the next of kin have been informed.
Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola expressed her heartfelt condolences to the loved ones and colleagues of the fallen soldiers.
