Members of the Western Cape Flying Squad deployed in Gugulethu area, arrested two suspects aged 28 and 38 for the possession of an imitation firearm early this morning, Sunday, 08 October 2023.
The members were busy with crime prevention operations in the area when a vehicle approaching from a side road almost collided with the police vehicle. The vehicle was stopped and searched upon which the members found an imitation firearm in the vehicle.
The suspects are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 09 October 2023.
In an unrelated matter members of the Western Cape Flying Squad deployed in the Hanover Park area attempted to pull over a motorcyclist who refused to stop. The motorcyclist fled at a high speed with the members in pursuit. The members in pursuit witnessed how the suspect disposed of an object whilst fleeing. The members stopped and upon further investigation discovered a firearm with 14 rounds of ammunition.
An enquiry docket was opened for further investigation.
Members of Worcester Crime Prevention Unit followed up information about a person who was busy manufacturing firearms in the Roodewal area. The members executed a search warrant at the identified premises and confiscated two homemade zip guns with ammunition hidden in the base of a bed. An adult male was arrested and detained.
He will appear in the Worcester Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.
