On Saturday, 07 October 2023, members attached to Harare Crime Prevention Unit conducted a vehicle checkpoint in Walter Sisulu Road, Nkanini, Khayelitsha when they stopped and searched a white BMW and found a firearm with ammunition in the vehicle. The 62-year-old driver could not produce a valid firearm license to be in possession of the firearm and was subsequently arrested. He was detained and faces a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The same members also stopped and searched a Mercedez Benz in which they found a firearm with ammunition. A 43-year-old man was arrested and detained for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspects will make their court appearances in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court once they have been charged.
