The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has lauded the swift arrest of one of the suspects responsible for the carjacking and murder of a male Bolt metered taxi driver, whose lifeless body was found in Westernburg area on Monday 09 October 2023.
The 17-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday 10 October 2023 in Ladanna outside Polokwane following an intelligence led operation by members of SAPS Polokwane Crime Intelligence Unit in collaboration with Westernburg detectives. The hijacked motor vehicle was found abandoned in Ladine in Polokwane.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects have requested to be ferried by a Bolt metered taxi and along the way they stabbed the driver to death afterwards, burned and dumped the body on a newly developed site in Westernburg area.
The police have through investigations managed to identify the deceased and the family will be notified soon.
“One of the arrested suspects in this horrendous crime was found to be a minor which is very disturbing that our children are now involved in such criminal activities. The police must be relentless in tracing the remaining suspects so that justice will be served,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.
Police are hard on the heels of the other two male suspects. Anyone with information that can assist to arrest the remaining suspects should come forward by contacting the Investigating Officer Sergeant Braidon Pheme at 067 093 9828 alternatively report to the nearest Police Station or to Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or share information anonymously on MySAPSApp.
The minor suspect is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court in due course following the completion of the Diversion Program with the Probation Officer.
Police investigations are continuing.
