Police in Belfast are investigating a case of house robbery after an elderly couple was found with severe injuries on Thursday 12 October 2023 at about 10:30 at her home in McDonald Street, Belfast.
According to the report, a family member who came to visit his 81-year-old grandmother, Maria Elizabeth Berrange, made the shocking discovery of her lying on the floor with visible injuries on her body.
He also found the motionless body of his 81 year grandfather, Izak Johannes Berrange lying on a chair with his body covered with blood.
Police and medical practitioners were summoned to the scene whereby Mrs Berrange was taken to hospital where she is fighting for her life whilst her husband was declared dead on the scene.
On further investigation, it was realised that the couple’s Nissan Sentra and the.22 rifle was stolen. The vehicle was later recovered at Du Ploy Street.
The house robbery and murder case was registered for further investigation.
The South African Police Service in Mpumalanga strongly condemned the brutal murder and attack of the senior citizens and urged the community to help with information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects.
