The Provincial Tracking Team and Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit made significant progress following the arrest of three suspects as well as the confiscation of firearms and other equipment.
According to information received after observing a spike of serious and violent crimes in the Capricorn District, where suspects were terrorizing community members, the Provincial Team conducted the operation on high-flyer suspects who are involved in these crimes.
The operation was conducted in the early hours of Friday 13 October 2023 in Polokwane, Seshego, Moletji, Botlokwa, Makotopong, Madiga, and Mankweng.
It is alleged that during the operation, three suspects aged between 29 and 40 years were arrested, and five firearms and ammunition, police’s rank insignia and police’s handcuffs were recovered.
Preliminary investigations revealed that suspects are believed to be part of a gang that is responsible for house robberies, business robberies, hijackings, and taxi-related murders.
The team is hot on the heels of outstanding suspects.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, hailed the vigilance and commitment that led to the arrest and confiscation of firearms and ammunition, rank insignia, and handcuffs.
Two suspects will appear before Mankweng Magistrates’ Court facing charges, possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition and the impersonating a police officer.
The third suspect will appear in Polokwane Magistrates’ Court for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
