Police management in the Pixley Ka Seme District welcomes the murder and business burglary sentences recently handed down in the De Aar Regional Court.
Brian Tree (36) was convicted on 12 October 2023 on a charge of murder and sentenced to life Imprisonment.
The incident took place in Sunrise on 21 August 2021 at about 19:25 when the accused went to Patrick Samson’s (49) house and fatally stabbed him in the chest after an altercation.
Brian Tree was arrested and the case was investigated by Sgt Ettiene Greeff of Sunrise SAPS Detective unit.
In a separate incident in De Aar, Mietjie Steenkamp (41) stabbed her husband Piet America (55) under his ear after an argument.
The incident occurred on 29 July 2023 at their house on a farm near De Aar. The investigating officer Sgt Shaun Moses secured a 15 year sentence in the De Aar Regional Court on 13 October 2023.
Reagen Davids (20) was handed down 5 years imprisonment in the De Aar Regional Court for a business burglary at a petrol station in De Aar.
The Kiosk was broken into at 05:00 on 13 February 2023 and money was stolen from the cash register. Davids was arrested with the assistance of video footage on 9 Mar 2023 by Sgt William van Heerden (the investigating officer) and sentenced on 13 October 2023.
The District Commissioner for Pixley Ka Seme, Maj Gen Nomana Mtukushe lauded all the investigating officers from De Aar and Sunrise for their meticulous investigations that led to these convictions.
