The police at Calcutta are in search of a woman who left a new baby boy inside a pit toilet on Sunday morning, 15 October 2023 around 10:40 at a certain church in Ronaldsey Trust, Ximhungwe near Bushbuckridge.
According to information at police disposal, members of the public heard a cry of a baby inside a pit toilet. They then alerted the authorities and dug behind the pit toilet and managed to rescue the child whose umbilical cord was still attached to him. He was then taken to hospital for treatment meanwhile police opened a case of child neglect.
Police are still in pursuit of the child’s mother and no one has been arrested so far. Members of the public with information on her whereabouts are urged to call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or send information via MySAPS App. All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.
The incident has been strongly condemned by the management of the SAPS in Mpumalanga and members of the public are urged to make use of services from Social Workers, Faith-Based-Organizations and other structures in the community rather than to take bad decisions.
