Police in Humansdorp clamping down on crime

Police in Humansdorp are stamping their authority as they clamp down on crime and criminals in the area. The weekend’s high density operations in hotspot areas have impacted positively and received the applause of the community. Since Friday, 20 October 2023 until Sunday, 22 October 2023, a multi-disciplinary approach to policing was conducted in Arcadia, Donkerhoek, Maak ‘n Lass and Vaaldam areas. Supporting the SAPS in their quest of reducing crime in these areas were the Community Policing Forum, religious leaders, Kouga Law Enforcement officers and the Community in Blue patrollers.

The impact of the high police presence paid off as no serious crime were reported during these times. The focus of the operations included the clampdown on drugs, the prevention of contact and property crime and gang activities. Vehicle check points, searches at alleged criminal houses, execution of warrants of arrests and visits to local taverns were conducted.

Successes achieved during the weekend are as follows:

* 460 prescription tablets
* 134 tik bulbs
* 19 knives
* 1 zipgun
* Cocaine (11 packets), tik (61 packets), mandrax (36), dagga(15 rolls)
* Alcohol (24 litres of wine and 21 bottles of beer).
* Copper wire (5kg)

A total of 12 people were arrested for crimes of dealing in drugs, possession of drugs, illegal dealing in liquor, possession of suspected stolen property (copper wire) and malicious damage to property.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Humansdorp magistrate court today, 23 October 2023.

Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Maj Gen Zolani Xawuka iterated that police will continue in their efforts to rid society of criminals that are disrupting the lives of law abiding citizens. “With community involvement and support, we will win the war on crime in Humansdorp. The success of this weekend’s operation is indicative that police are serious in restoring law and order in the problematic areas,” added Maj Gen Xawuka.
