Two suspects, aged 22 and 43, were arrested at Glencowie village on Wednesday, 08 November 2023 on charges of failure to give a satisfactory account for the possession of suspected livestock.
The Nebo police and Nebo stock theft unit responded to a tip-off from the community about a suspect believed to be involved in livestock theft, and they acted swiftly on the information and cornered two suspects who were transporting livestock (cattle) with a white bakkie and instantly arrested them after they were unable to provide satisfactory evidence that they were owners of the livestock. They were arrested at Glencowie New Stand village, Nebo policing precinct, on Wednesday, 08 November 2023.
Further investigations revealed that six sheep that were left at his residence were also recovered later on.
The owners of the livestock reported to be missing positively identified their livestock.
Three more cattle are still missing.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the arrest of the suspects and appreciated the partnership that has been displayed, which resulted in the success that was made. “We always encourage the community to work together with the police because we know that more can be achieved,” remarked General Hadebe.
The suspects will appear before Nebo Magistrate Court on Friday, 10 November 2023 on charges of failure to give a satisfactory account for the possession of suspected livestock.
Police investigations are still continuing.
