Former Limpopo SAPS Recruitment Clerk sentenced for corruption

Tshisamphiri Ragwala (47) was convicted and sentenced for corruption by the Giyani Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on 13 November 2023.

In March 2019, Polokwane based Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation members received a complaint about a South African Police Service member who was demanding R10 000-00 from the complainant who applied for SAPS entry level posts at Mopani District in Giyani.

Upon receiving the information, it was immediately operationalized and the accused was arrested after receiving the money from the complainant.

Ragwala was employed as an Administration Clerk under Human Resource Management at SAPS-Mopani District office in Giyani. After numerous court appearances, Ragwala was released on bail until he was convicted and sentenced to six years’ imprisonment which is wholly suspended for five years’ on condition that the accused is not convicted for similar offences during the period of suspension.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province Major General Gopz Govender has welcomed the sentencing and indicated that it will serve as a deterrent to other SAPS employees who are working at recruitment offices.
