Police members in the Western Cape continued to eradicate the streets of unlicensed firearms and ammunition when they detained five suspects in isolated incidents on Tuesday, 14 November 2023.
Worcester police members responded to a complaint of a shooting incident in progress in River View. As they made their way to the area, they saw four males running down in David Street. The police members apprehended the suspects and in the process confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They arrested four adult males on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention, police members of the Anti-Gang Unit followed up on information pertaining a firearm hidden at an identified address in Bonteheuwel. They operationalised the information at their disposal and approached the address in Prunus Street. Their persistence was rewarded when they detained an adult male on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Worcester and Bishop Lavis Magistrate court’s once charged.
