Northern Cape Police continues to combat the trading of illicit cigarettes

The South African Police Service in the Northern Cape, continues to clamp down on the trading of illicit cigarettes after a multi-disciplinary operation led to the confiscation of a significant amount of illicit cigarettes and tobacco products in Hartswater.

Kimberley Public Order Police, assisted by Crime Intelligence and the South African Revenue Service Customs Unit pounced on the storage facility of a supermarket and confiscated cigarettes and tobacco products.

The value of the confiscated items is estimated at R10 million. Customs officials are conducting an investigation regarding the origin of the counterfeit tobacco products.

Frances Baard District management welcomed the success and reiterated that compliance inspections will continue unabated.
