On the 13 October 2023 at about 15:15 an 18-year-old matric learner was accompanied by her mother’s cousin to wait for a taxi next to Reitzpark Primary school, Welkom. A blue Renault Clio sedan stopped next to them with just the driver inside the vehicle. He loaded the learner’s luggage in the boot of his car. The luggage included a brown mink blanket, toiletries, clothes, pillow case, school bag containing books, P40 Hisense cellphone and cash and there were some additional books, as she was from a camp for matriculants to prepare for the final examinations.
The driver took State Way road towards Theunissen and he stopped at an open field. He took out a knife and demanded cash. He instructed her to undress her clothes and she was raped.
After the rape ordeal, he instructed her to get out of the vehicle and he drove off, leaving her alone. The vehicle had no registration number at the back.
She was given a lift by another person who took her home and then the incident was reported to Welkom police station.
