Clearing our communities of unlicensed firearms and bringing offenders of the law to book produced positive results when members arrested three suspects on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
On Tuesday, 21 November 2023, members were busy conducting patrols in Parkwood area when they noticed a suspicious looking man who appeared nervous upon seeing the police patrol vehicle. The suspect started to run and the police gave chase and caught him. The members noticed that the suspect was holding on to something in his pocket. They searched him and found a firearm without a serial number and six rounds of ammunition. The 27-year-old suspect was arrested and detained.
The suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court today.
In an unrelated incident on Tuesday, 21 November 2023 at about 11:00, members attached to Anti-Economical and Provincial Extortion Task Team received information of gang activity in Wesbank. The members swiftly responded to the mentioned premises and they confiscated two zip guns and 7,76mm rounds of ammunition at two separate addresses. Two suspects aged between 23 and 26 were arrested.
The two suspects will appear in the Bluedowns Magistrates’ Court once charged.
