Woman nabbed for R2 million road accident fund fraud

The Commercial Crime Investigation officers have on Sunday, 26 November 2023 arrested a 29-year-old woman in connection a Road Accident Fund (RAF) fraud amounting to R2 million.

In November 2022, the woman, who worked as a secretary to an attorney who dealt with RAF claims in Hillcrest, allegedly defrauded a claimant of R1 650 000. The suspect, after sending the claimant from pillar to post for some time ended up telling the client that Road Accident Fund had not paid the money, although records at the Road Accident Fund proved that the money was paid into the attorney’s account. A case of fraud was duly opened with the police for investigation.

Still on the same month, another case of fraud was opened against the same suspect after she allegedly issued a fake proof of payment to the amount of R440 000 which the client had claimed from the Fund.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 28 November 2023.
