The SAPS Provincial Organized Crime Investigations Unit followed up on information regarding a suspect wanted for a kidnapping and murder he allegedly committed in Richie during January 2023.
On Sunday, 26 November 2023 at about 18:00, the 25-year-old male suspect was traced and arrested at a tavern in Weenen, Kwa-Zulu Natal.
During the arrest the police confiscated a firearm and five rounds of ammunition.
The suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and will appear in court soon. Investigation into the matter is continuing.
The Provincial Head for Organized Crime Investigations, Brig Johan Myburgh commended the members for the meticulous investigation which led to the arrest and seizure of the firearm. He also reiterated that the robust proliferation of firearms remains a priority in the fight against crime.
