Husband arrested for the 2020 murder of his wife

With the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children awareness campaign well underway, the Ilembe District Task Team members have cracked a murder case which was initially reported as a missing person after a woman, Fikelephi Dlomo, who was 31-years-old at the time, was reported missing in 2020.

After realising that the net was closing up on him, the 38-year-old man, who was married to Dlomo during the time of her disappearance, handed himself over to the Nsuze police in the company of his family members on Monday, 27 November 2023. Investigations pointed the police to the suspect’s house at Qabavu area where the police’s Search and Rescue team recovered human remains, believed to be those of Fikelephi Dlomo, from a shallow grave next to the outside pit toilet.

Police have thus far uncovered that the victim was severely assaulted with a blunt object, probably a stick on her head before she was buried. The woman’s husband was duly arrested and a case of murder was registered. Further DNA tests will be conducted to ascertain the identity of the recovered body remains.

The suspect will appear before the Nsuze Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 29 November 2023.
