The High Court in Polokwane has slapped three accused with a lengthy sentence of life imprisonment with 18 years’ to each accused for three charges of conspiracy to commit murder, housebreaking with intent to commit unknown offence to the state and murder. The case was finalised on Thursday 30 November 2023.
The court heard that the two accused Petrus and Stanley had on Wednesday 30 June 2021 at about midnight, intruded a house through arrangement with Alias Ditsela, the husband of the deceased, Sibongile Ditsela at Lephalale – Onverwacht in Waterberg District and brutallykilled 45-year-old female person with a steel iron bar.
The case docket of murder, house breaking and conspiracy to commit murder was opened at Lephalale police station and the docket was assigned to Detective Warrant Officer Joel Mahanyele for investigations.
The case was transferred to the Provincial Commercial Crime Investigation Unit and assigned to Detective Colonel Lesibana Mokale for further handling. The three accused were arrested on the different dates and places, accused number one, Kwaba Petrus Sefara (48), was arrested on Saturday 08 October 2022, at Ga-Makanye village in Mankweng outside Polokwane, accused number two, Alias Kotswana Ditsela (53), was arrested on Monday 10 October 2022, at Lephalale and accused three, Stanley Khutso Maleka, was arrested on Tuesday 11 October 2022, at Ga-Thoka village in Mankweng outside Polokwane.
The Investigating team successfully opposed bail against the three accused and the three remained in custody until the final court appearance on Thursday, 30 November 2023.
The accused persons have resumed with their jail terms as outlined as follows:
Count 1: Conspiracy to commit murder sentenced to ten years,
Count 2: House breaking with intention to commit unknown offence to the state sentenced to eight years and
Count 3: Murder sentenced to life jail imprisonment.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the team for their meticulous investigation and further welcomed the sentencing meted out to the accused. “You can run away but you cannot hide from the police. The hand of the law will always be long enough to catch the criminals,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.
