A 51-year-old suspect is expected to appear at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court today, Monday 04 December 2023 after he allegedly raped a 31-year-old woman in the early hours of Friday morning, 01 December 2023 in Violetbank, Bushbuckridge.
According to information received, the victim was from a local tavern on her way back home. She alleged that she was walking on the R40 when the suspect came from behind and grabbed her, forcing her to the nearby bushes and reportedly raped her.
When the victim was released by the suspect, she saw a Toyota Quantum and called for help. The occupants never wasted time, but immediately chased and apprehended the suspect who was taken to the Police Station.
The suspect was then arrested and charged for rape hence his court appearance.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has commended the good citizens who apprehended the suspect and appreciated them for not taking the law into their own hands, but handed the suspect over to the police. “It is disturbing to find people who victimised vulnerable women especially during the period when the world is on 16 days of actvism for no violence against women and children campaign” said the General.
