Two suspects, aged between 63 and 64 years, is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Wednesday, 06 December 2023 for contravention of the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011. This comes after they were served with court summons on Wednesday, 29 November 2023.
It is alleged that the two accused known as the Directors of Buildaid Pty Ltd had registered for VAT (Value After Tax), the company income tax and personal income tax but failed to submit the tax returns.
A preliminary probe by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) uncovered the suspects’ alleged tax evasion which resulted in SARS losing an unknown amount. The incident took place during the period between 2019 to 2021.
The matter was then reported to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team based in Johannesburg culminating in the summons being served and court appearance of suspects secured.
