Sexual assault, child grooming and rape led to the 50-year-old foster father’s sentence of 14 years direct imprisonment.
On 16 January 2023 the 15-year-old girl and her foster mother went to Parys police station to open a case after a series of sexual abuse incidents by her 50-year-old foster father.
It started back on 16 January 2023 when the child’s foster mom left for work in the early hours. The suspect started touching the child inappropriately and stopped after she told him to do so. The 50-year-old continued and did it two more times, with the child still not informing her foster mom due to being threatened each time that she will be hurt if she informs anyone about what he is busy doing to her.
After the third incident in February 2023, the 15-year-old got the courage to inform her foster mom. Her foster mom did not think twice but took the child to the Tumahole police station and cases of sexual assault and child grooming were registered
Sergeant Bongani Zwai of the Tumahole Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit, working together with Mr Seviwe Mdazuka as the prosecutor, ensured that justice was served for the 15-year-old.
The 50-year-old foster father was arrested and sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment for sexual assault, rape and sexual grooming.
