A 50-year-old man allegedly killed his 30-year-old wife and hanged himself at Bothashoek on Friday morning, 08 December 2023.
It is alleged that the victim was at her residence when the suspect visited her, stabbed her six times with a knife, and fled the scene. The victim screamed for help and was taken to the nearest clinic by the neighbours and she sustained multiple stab wounds, and she was certified dead at the clinic.
The police received the information and traced the suspect to his residence in Bothashoek; upon arrival, they found the suspect hanging from the roof with an electric cord cable.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the two were officially married as husband and wife.
Tubatse police have opened a case of murder and an inquest.
The deceased were identified as Refiloe Mokgotho, residing at Praktiseer 30 (victim), and Freddy Mokgotho, residing at Bothashoek (suspect).
The motive for the incident is still unknown at this stage. A suicide note was found on the scene, and investigation into the matter continues.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the incident and advised couples to resolve their differences amicably or to seek professional help if they are victims of domestic abuse.
