Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl at Tshififi Village in Thohoyandou, allegedly by a 12-year-old boy on 12 December 2023 at about 15:00.
Reports indicate that the victim went with other children to play at the suspect’s house and later when she returned home, her mother suspected foul play. She then took her to the local medical center and that’s when it was confirmed the victim was raped.
Police were called and a case of rape was opened. The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit launched an investigation which revealed that the victim was raped by the 12-year-old boy.
The Probation Officer was contacted for intervention as the suspect is a minor.
The Provincial Commissioner has expressed shock and said, children need to be educated about the consequences of their actions. “There is an increase in the sexualisation of children and they fall victim to abuse perpetrated by adults and children themselves. Parents should pay more attention to the children they are raising and always be protective of their future and what they are being exposed to,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.
Police investigation continues.
