Mpho Abel Maishoane was sentenced by Kroonstad Regional Court to life after he assaulted and raped of his 27-year-old friend.
On 03 June 2022 at about 10:00, the 27-year-old victim was with her siblings at home in Gelukwaarts, when she had to go buy supplies, the 35-year-old suspect offered to go with her.
On their way back, the suspect asked the victim to accompany him to fetch his money from his other friend. They both rerouted, and again the suspect requested that they go to his place to fetch his jersey. Upon their arrival, the suspect locked the door and became aggressive, he pushed her to the ground and pulled her to the bedroom where he forcefully undressed her and started to rape her.
After that violent ordeal the 35-year-old suspect fell asleep and the victim managed to escape and immediately went to Maokeng police station.
A case of rape was registered and Detective Warrant Officer Derrick Lionel DeGuoveia of Maokeng Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit was entrusted with its investigation working under the guidance of Prosecutor Mr Mdazuka. The suspect was traced and arrested on the 06 June 2022 for rape.
The suspect, Mpho Abel Maishoane 35-years-old, was found guilty by Kroonstad Regional Court and sentenced to life imprisonment.
